Another year passes, and it’s Jazz Festival time again! I’m hugely privileged to be involved in lots of different projects this year, first of all I played with the Aberdeen jazz Orchestra when we opened the festival, with special guest from London, vocalist and trumpeter Georgina Jackson, which sold out in the Blue Lamp.
Then yesterday I played a trio set with Max Popp (drums) and Bryan Chalmers (bass). We performed original compositions and some modern jazz by John Scofield and Pat Metheny. We were then joined for a Sonny Rollins tribute set by Helena Kay, a fantastic tenor player who came up from London for the festival.
On tuesday 13th I’ll be playing with my duo Los Acousticos Bandidos in Molly’s Bistro.
On wednesday the 14th it’ll be a guitar frenzy, when a specially formed quartet featuring me, Kevin Mackenzie, Ben MacDonald and Scotty Cruickshank will be playing in the Carmelite Library.
And to finish proceedings, I’ll be performing a duo with local singer Marisha Addison in the Glentanar on sunday as the festival draws to a close. What a fantastic week!
